Many people think that the horses were brought to Iceland by the Viking settlers. However, the only proof of that is, of course, that the horse looks like a lot of the Scandinavian and the European horses. It is important not to think that the Icelandic ponies are a different breed. In fact, because of the Icelandics small size, it is often called the Icelandic pony. Despite being called a pony, in most nations, this breed is considered to be a horse. Thus, this horse packs more of a punch than what most people give it credit for. The Icelandic Horses are also able to stand up to very cool temperatures, making it a very durable horse.
Many people like to choose the Icelandics as a first horse to buy. That is because of how easy they are to ride. Not only that, but they are fairly easy to handle as well. In fact, many up and coming riders (or kids) like to ride on Icelandic horses the best. When you breed these horses, the first thing that you will notice is that they are very willing to try anything. On top of that, these horses are very brave and do not get frighten very easily. Most of the time, you are also sure to notice that the horses are very cheerful and very confident in themselves. Unlike other horses, these horse do not need a lot of encouragement from their owners like other horses do. So people think that the horse is so brave, because Iceland does not have any animals that are large enough to be a predator for this horse. The only thing that these horses have to watch out for is, of course, the weather. This is one reason why the horse has great survival skills.
Unlike a lot of horses, most of the Icelandic horses actually get some time off each year. This is a time where the horses can pretty much roam freely in herds. The owners of these horses find that it’s very important for the horses to become independent thinkers. This is good for the horse in case it ever gets out on its own. It has to know how to stay alive in these cold temperatures. Overall, it’s a great horse that loves to be around people. They are very happy horses, and they just love to be with you. This is one breed of horse that you do not have to take care of all the time. It knows what to do and when to do it. If you want a horse that you do not have to babysit all of the time, then this is the horse for you. Of course, it is important to read up on these horses before getting one.
