The useful horse breed known as “Shetland Pony” was initially bred in the Shetland Isles. Their lowest height is approximately 28 inches and the tallest height can be around 42 inches that is equal to 10.2 hands. These ponies have been kept in the Shetland Isles since the Bronze Age.
They lived in the rough lands of the Shetland Isles which makes them very hardy and strong. Shetland Ponies have the typical body structure, small heads, short legs, and heavy coats. Their eyes are wide and big whereas the ears are smaller.
They have muscular necks with stocky bodies and exceedingly strong legs. Their tails are thick and long, skin is dense in order to bear the harshness of cold weather.
One of the notable plus points is that it can pull the double of its own weight whereas many other pony breeds can only pull the half of their original heaviness. This fact proves the immenseness of its strength.
This breed is commonly used for riding, driving, and racing. They are commonly ridden by children, also are used by adults in numerous horse shows. The rare purposes they are used for are therapeutic horseback riding and at various petting zoos.
