Mangalargas

The Mangalarga Horse is a Brazilian variety of horse, which was bred especially by Portuguese colonists to be well suited to the new, harsh conditions found in South America.  Mangalarga Horses have been bred with many different varieties of European horses, and are noted for their very smooth, fluid motions.   Mangalarga Horses are named after the farm from which they originated, where the colonial breeder had previously referred to them as Sublimes.  The name Mangalarga became more popular and stuck.  Mangalarga Horses are usually solid colored, and range in color from brown to gray.  Mangalarga Horses are hardy horses, known for their adaptability to the environment.

    A separate, but relateds breed from the Mangalarga Horse is known as the Mangalarga Marchador.  This horse is Brazil's national horse, which has been bred far more selectively and along a different path than the original Mangalarga.  Mangalarga Marchadors are very popular across North America and South America, while the original Mangalarga Horse is not as common.  Mangalarga Marchador Horses are also noted for their superior endurance, which makes them an excellent choice for a cross country or trail riding horse.  Because of their more selective breeding, Mangalarga Marchadors are likely more expensive than Mangalarga Horses, so if you would like a hardy, adaptable horse, without as high of a price, a Mangalarga is for you.

     If you're looking for a Sport Horse with keen movements, agility, and grace, as well as superior endurance, the Mangalarga Marchador is the horse for you, and is readily available.  Traditional Mangalarga Horses are more difficult to find, as their less careful breeding has resulted in a very different variety of horse from the Mangalarga Marchador.  Since the Mangalarga Marchador variety is so much more popular and sought after, the word Mangalarga is often used to refer to Mangalarga Marchador horses, despite the difference in breed.

    You can find Mangalarga Horses for sale from breeders, local horse owners, or even on the internet.  When you find Mangalarga Horses for sale, be sure to look at all of your options and to price compare.  The ages, abilities, dispositions, and other desired attributes will vary a great deal on the Mangalarga Horses for sale that you find.
