Shetland Pony Horses
The Shetland Pony Breed
If you could not tell by the name, the Shetland Pony is a type of horse
that actually came about in Shetland Isles. Just like most ponies,
Shetland ponies can come in a few different sizes. For example, they
can be as small as 28 inches high or as big as 42 inches high. Either
way, they are not very big. One thing that these ponies are known for
is their heavy coat. They have short little legs, but very heavy and
thick coats. This goes for their mane as well. In fact, some of their
manes are so long that they almost touch the floor. The way that the
mane hangs down in the face of Shetland Ponies (or at least the ones
that have not been trimmed up) makes it look like a skater punk. The
good thing about these ponies is, of course, their intelligence. They
are super smart and can pretty much do anything that you need them to.
They are also very strong. They can be used for a lot of things.
Although most people use them for riding, they are an all-purpose type
pony.
Most of the Shetland Ponies of today are used just for children as
riding ponies. However, they have been seen doing a few other things.
For example, they can be used for pleasure riding, as well as working
in commercials, because they are really smart. Not only that, but a lot
of people go to see these kinds of ponies at petting zoos. A Shetland
Pony does a good jump at petting zoos, because they like people. Now
people are even starting to use these ponies for therapeutic horseback
riding, because they are easy to control, and they do not go too fast.
If you are looking for a guide horse, then these are a good pony to
choose. Much like guide dogs, they help people get around who can not
see well. However, people like the guide horses better, because they
live a lot longer. Most people did not know that Shetland Ponies could
be guide horses, because most people only see miniature horses do it.
However, Shetland ponies are one of the few ponies that can actually do
this kind of job.
Overall, this is a great pet to have. Whether you want it for riding or
to help you see, Shetland ponies can do it all. They love to be around
people much like dogs do. However, you have to remember that this is
still a horse, and it has to be treated like one. Unlike miniature
horses, these ones do have to stay outside if they are your seeing eye
horse. Of course, this could be good news for a lot of people, because
these horses are pretty big. You have to give them room to run around,
otherwise, they will go stir crazy. They do cost more than seeing eye
dogs, but they will get the job done. If you have always wanted to see
a really smart pony, then this is your shot. These ponies are smart,
friendly, and they will get you from 'point a' to 'point b'
safely.
